The Epic Reporting Lead will serve as a critical member of the Informatics - Analytics Department and Information Systems- Epic Operations Department at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.  This role will support many administrative and executive projects and reports related to Epic Reporting across the Institute that drive business, operations, finance, clinical, quality and performance in oncology care under the direction of the Clinical Analytics Lead and Senior Manager Epic Operations. The COBA Lead will interact with different executive stakeholders, data trustees and data stewards within those areas to ensure proper representation and materialization of their area’s Epic reporting needs.  This is a hands-on position that requires a technical and functional understanding of healthcare analytics and Epic as well as a strong understanding of DFCI’s core business functions.  This position will be responsible from the usability of the Epic reporting for each of the aforementioned areas granting consistency within the reporting efforts at the Institute and with Partners eCare. This position shall coordinate  the work with multidisciplinary clinical, administrative and finance teams on specific Epic reporting needs, serving as a primary resource for the collection of specifications, prioritization, analysis, and interpretation of data. The Lead will align with COBA and Epic Operations teams to design an effective and efficient reporting platform between DFCI Data Warehouse, COBA and Epic. The Lead will work on identifying, evaluating, analyzing, and recommending changes in support of Epic reporting, including ongoing production maintenance and troubleshooting.   • Inform and implement the strategy between COBA and Epic Operations team for a uniform reporting strategy
  • Responsible for maintaining relationships with different DFCI teams involved in Epic reporting and Partners eCare
  • Leads troubleshooting and problem resolution activities for Epic data pull and reporting as needed
  • Establish training and communication needs for end users
  • Responsible for overall Epic report management, including intake, time estimates, scoping, resourcing, etc.
  • Support Health Catalyst engagement for the development of a new DFCI Harmonized Data Warehouse related to Epic data
  • Develops detailed analytic project plans, and manages deliverables to ensure projects produce high quality, time sensitive results
  • Regularly provides guidance and training to less experienced analysts and any staff reporting to this position
  • Provides written and oral communication on the overall status of implementation and on-going activities
  • Accomplish Informatics department and DFCI mission by completing related results as needed
  • Provide Epic reporting support to various departments
  • Serve as a technical expert for compiling, cleaning, manipulating, and analyzing data related to assigned analytic projects
  • Governance of Epic reporting and maintenance requests as well as data integrity
  • Collaborate with the relevant stakeholders in the development, implementation, and operation of systems and processes to support the activities and goals of the aforementioned stakeholders and the broader analytic community to make the Institute success with its goals.
  • Serve as liaison to executives, physicians and/or administrators to take detailed ordering briefs, clarify specific requirements of each project and translate requests to Epic report writers, data analysts and data management teams in order to create Epic reports
  • Leverage reporting and analytics to demonstrate opportunities in target categories; identify patterns and uncover risks and opportunities; and provide a foundation for continual improvement
  • Participate in new module/application implementation, systems upgrades, testing, and training for new systems and work with the analytics and Epic Operations teams to actively promote and support division standardization, utilization, health information exchange, integration and optimization plans for all clinical applications.
  • Contribute to management of data documentation by providing subject matter expert input into solution analysis and design
  • Assist in developing methods and controls to ensure consistent application and use of Epic data and analytics across DFCI (single source of truth).
  • Participate in the Data Stewardship and Governance Working Group in order to identify the best sources for key data types, develop processes for standardizing data and maintain content for data dictionary and documentation.
  • Lead the team of Epic report writers and analysts within department to ensure all requested deliverables are produced within a timely and accurate manner.

  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Access is required. Competent with additional Microsoft Office suite software (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio...)
  • Epic Clarity Certification is required
  • Familiarity with databases (e.g. SQL...) using a variety of applications (Excel, MS Access, Stata, SAS…)
  • Comfortable learning new software tools
  • Extensive knowledge of business intelligence and visualization tools is preferred
  • Broad knowledge of multiple health data software platforms (EPIC, CASS, etc.), data structures and elements
  • Proven ability to document business requirements and ability to design and develop reports
  • Solid oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to function independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Must be very flexible in coordinating complex activities that are often subject to rapid or extensive changes and be able to prioritize urgent requests

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Yes, this position will supervise multiple Epic report writers/analysts.




WORK ENVIRONMENT: (include physical efforts when necessary)



  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Public Health or related field
  • Minimum of four to seven years of related work experience in healthcare industry
  • Must have experience implementing an electronic health record and solid understanding of Epic design, build and data
  • Epic Clarity Certification is required
  • Must be able to function independently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities
  • Must have superior interpersonal and communication skills to effectively work and communicate with all levels (executive to analysts) of internal and external staff
  • Requires superior computer skills, i.e. MS Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word and data mining techniques.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server preferred
  • Requires knowledge of clinical data and health claims data structure and content in addition to other administrative data sources
