The Division of Population Sciences at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is seeking a Senior Research Project Manager to manage a large-scale cohort research study aimed at collecting as comprehensive and consistent patient, clinical, treatment, and outcomes data to be used with genomic data for patients with solid tumors cancer. The ultimate goal of these data collection efforts is to use this data to learn more about the role of genetic and molecular alterations that cause cancer to develop and progress. Researchers will use the data collected to help develop better ways to treat cancer.


The Senior Research Project Manager is responsible for assigned day-to-day coordination and overall management of project activities in the areas of data collection, computing, and database organization, including providing training to research staff, regulatory submissions, deviation/violation tracking and reporting, data collection tracking and reporting, and coordinating communication with project leadership, staff, and regulatory authorities. The Senior Research Project Manager will be responsible to report on his or her defined deliverables, to identify variances in project plan and to develop contingency plans when necessary to keep project milestones on track. The Senior Research Project Manager help develop and implement strategies that will ensure compliance, consistency, and accountability in all assigned research activities. In addition, the Senior Research Project Manager will interact with Informatics teams to optimize and enhance the data curation platforms.


The Senior Research Project Manager will work with a variety of faculty and staff at all levels throughout DFCI/BWH and with other key stakeholders.  The Senior Research Project Manager will develop infrastructure, procedures, and tracking systems for project management services performed.  Project management responsibilities would include coordinating the on boarding of new research staff training, maintaining workflows, facilitating questions, and reporting. The Senior Research Project Manager will be supervised and supported by the Chair of the Division of Population Sciences.


  • Manage a large-scale cohort research study involving data collection and management.
  • Responsible for day-to-day oversight and management of assigned project and staff.
  • Responsible for overseeing the collection, management, and quality assurance review of patient-level clinical and research data.
  • Evaluating and tracking the eligibility of cases for inclusion in the study.
  • Reviewing and abstracting the medical records for patients. Entering the clinical and research data into the designated database.
  • Reviewing data for quality and completeness using reporting software.
  • Responsible for maintenance of regulatory documentation and compliance.
  • Maintain study-related databases, and prepare reports as needed.
  • Work with Informatics to collect requirements for software enhancements including data quality tracking, curation workflows, and bug solutions.
  • Schedule research team meetings and conference calls and other project-related administrative tasks.  
  • Assist in the development of a project plan and data dictionary that serve as guiding documents that provides overall direction, expectation of deliverables and stated milestones to ensure the success of the project.   
  • Responsible for assuring that the project team meets all deadlines and is also to maintain an ongoing working relationship with Research team and Principal Investigators.   
  • Responsible for developing the systems, tools, and infrastructure needed for project, including staff training, regulatory submissions, event tracking and reporting, deviation and violation tracking and reporting, data collection tracking and reporting.
  • Prepares and presents status reports to key stakeholders.
  • Collaborates closely with investigators to develop, design, and implement protocols, data collection procedures, data analysis plans, and data use agreements.



  • Master’s degree with 5 years of experience preferred, or Bachelor’s with 7 years of experience required. 
  • Ability to lead data management projects.

  • Ability to oversee all aspects of project management scope defined deliverables and required key performance standards.

  • Must demonstrate a history of proven success in the data management and research field. Must have expert knowledge of regulatory affairs, research ethics and the responsible conduct of research.

  • Supervisory experience preferred.
