The Clinical Trial Financial Analyst will report to the Director of the Clinical Trial Business Office at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The Clinical Trial Financial Analyst will assist the Business Director in all financial aspects of clinical trials at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The Clinical Trial Financial Analyst will also work directly with multiple groups and individuals across the Institute to communicate clinical trial financial objectives and results. The ideal candidate has had exposure to clinical trials and/or experience at a medical center, pharmaceutical/biotechnology company, or Clinical Trial Organization (CRO).


Clinical Trial Study Budgets

  • Review and interpret clinical trial protocols with Investigator and study teams for cost analysis
  • Review protocol tests and procedures with Investigator and study team for billing compliance designations
  • Will perform analysis for industry, in-house, cooperative group and government funded trials
  • Understands and keeps current with FDA and Medicare guidelines for clinical trial billing
  • Submit and negotiate clinical trial budgets with pharmaceutical, biotech and other funding sources
  • Review Payment Terms in Clinical Trial Agreement
  • Performs necessary requirements per institutional SOP’s for study activation
  • Collaborate with our partner institutions (MGH, BIDMC, BWH) on budget development

Financial Responsibilities and Oversight 

  • Maintain a database of existing clinical trials with payment schedules, dollars received and dollars outstanding
  • Utilize clinical trial management system for patient accrual and protocol related activity
  • Utilize hospital revenue management system (EPIC) for clinical trial activity and patient billing accuracy
  • Prepare invoices as required by various clinical trial agreements and payment terms
  • Manage the collection of all outstanding receivables and follow up as necessary
  • Work with and assist Principal Investigators, administrators, and study teams with the allocation of personnel costs during the quarterly clinical trial offset process
  • Work closely with Research Accounting to maintain and enhance clinical trial accounting policies and procedures
  • Review and monitor appropriate expenses against budget
  • Process and pay invoices received from outside vendors, for services provided on clinical trials
  • Perform trial account audit and payment reconciliation for trial account closure
  • Serve as a resource to study teams, investigators, and institute departments in clinical trial financial matters
  • Help to manage clinical trial revenue and proper distribution across partner Institutions and outside sub-sites


Financial Reporting

  • Prepare a comprehensive quarterly clinical trial financial report
  • Present clinical trial financial report to disease center leaders and administrators
  • Review and develop various financial reporting metrics
  • Discuss trends with disease group leaders regarding clinical trial accrual, personnel expense, and cash receipts
  • Assist in all new clinical trial staffing decisions based upon financial analysis review



  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field.
  • 0-3 years direct experience or equivalent work experience. Previous clinical research experience preferred. 
  • Excellent communication skills and organizational abilities are essential.
  • Knowledge of computer applications (Excel, Word, Access) is essential.
