The Director of Specialty Pharmacy is responsible for the direction, growth and financial performance of the specialty pharmacy that services DFCI patients. The Director sets goals, provides strategic direction and focuses on the growth and innovation of the specialty pharmacy. The Director will manage clinical and retail pharmacists and pharmacy technicians as well as other staff such as benefits specialists, financial analysts, etc.. The Director will collaborate with the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee on establishing clinical guidelines. Further, the Director will collaborate with all site directors of pharmacy, leadership and physicians to grow the specialty


  • Directs the day-to-day specialty pharmacy operations to ensure pharmaceuticals and supplies are stored, prepared, and dispensed in accordance with all laws, regulations, and Institute standards.
  • Direction, growth and financial performance of the specialty pharmacy.
  • Provides management, supervision and leadership to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute specialty pharmacy staff.
  • Provides guidance and support to Dana-Farber Community Cancer Network sites and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute network affiliations.
  • Work collaboratively with nursing, medicine, and operations leadership to set direction and manage operations of the department and Institute. Serves as liaison between pharmacy and medical staff, nurses and other professional staff.
  • Develops, implements, and ensures compliance with departmental and organizational policies and procedures. Also ensures compliance with all Institute standards, state/federal regulatory agencies and accreditation bodies related to medication management.
  • Collaborates with professional staff to develop and coordinate quality improvement efforts.
  • Participate in and lead many departmental and interdepartmental committees
  • Coordinate operational and clinical pharmaceutical care responsibilities
  • Review/follow-up safety reports in collaboration with the Medication Safety Officer


A Bachelor’s Degree or Doctor of Pharmacy from an accredited college of Pharmacy is required along with 5 years experience in a clinical pharmacy management role; preferably in retails and hospital settings. Proficiency in computer office applications. Strong financial acumen with ability to manage growing business, gathering data and preparing cost analysis reports. Project management skills. Leadership skills. Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams including physicians, nurses, compliance, legal and finance. Familiar with regulatory standards and guidelines. Must be licensed to practice pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Certification, an advanced degree or training in a specialty area is required.
