This position reports to the Administrative Director, Cell Manipulation Core Facility (CMCF) and works within the CMCF to ensure calibrations and equipment repairs are carried out according to regulations set by FDA and other accrediting agencies. This position is key to ensuring consistent documentation of repairs to critical equipment used in the processing and storage of products.  In addition the Biomedical Technician is responsible for developing and tracking the assets of each department and maintaining the central temperature monitoring system.

 

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains asset management program for all CMCF equipment from initial purchase to decommissioning.
  • Performs preventative maintenance, testing and calibrations on laboratory equipment (incubators, centrifuges, water systems, LN2 tanks, BSC, etc.), electrical safety testing and qualifying ISO 5 and 7 clean room environments.
  • Ensures all preventative maintenance whether performed internally or by contracted vendor is completed in a timely manner and in line with CMCF standard operating procedures
  • Maintains legible, accurate and complete records of preventative maintenance and repairs
  • Manages all assigned equipment and schedules service
  • Perform pre-acceptance inspections and develop PM procedures on newly purchased equipment; maintains files on procedures and manuals
  • Ensure test equipment is working properly and calibrated within established intervals
  • Research and initiate orders for repair parts, working within established budget parameters
  • Prepares and ships equipment for repair, if necessary
  • Research and present options for new or replacement equipment
  • Assists in Installation Qualification portion of validation projects as assigned
  • Coordinates and conducts specialized environmental monitoring in the ISO 7 cleanroom.
  • Maintain an orderly and functional work environment
  • Provide emergency on-call responsibilities as needed
  • Participate in department meetings
  • Document all significant asset related actions in compliance with department practices
  • Collaborate with fellow technical personnel in department meetings to ensure they are kept abreast of technical updates and/or device related problems
  • Demonstrate and reflect a commitment to the mission and values of Dana Farber.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that are intrinsic to the successful operation of CMCF

Qualifications

AD in Electrical Technology or related field.  BS/BA in Electrical Technology or related field preferred. Minimum 2 years’ experience in clinical laboratory setting preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Experience testing / servicing clinical laboratory equipment and working in a GMP environment.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work as a member of a team, if required
  • Ability to work independently with some supervision
  • Good organization and time management skills
  • Working knowledge of computer applications pertaining to tracking service histories and producing reports on assets
  • Experience writing technical reports and test reports.
  • Experience in a role requiring effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Good trouble-shooting skills
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge of CLIA, FACT, Joint Commission and OSHA standards and regulations.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals and implement and manage relevant quality control and preventative maintenance programs.\
  • Good organization and time management skills
  • Working knowledge of computer applications pertaining to tracking service histories and producing reports on assets
  • Willingness and ability to receive factory training, computer training, and other training provided by Dana Farber
