Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and closing of $500,000-$1M worth of gifts and grants annually, and with the Director, a total portfolio of $2M-$3M annually;
  • Identify and cultivate corporate and foundation prospects;
  • Work with Director, high-level management, researchers, trustees, volunteer leadership, and staff to develop proposals for specific programmatic and capital funding needs and to manage overall corporate and foundation fundraising efforts for assigned areas;
  • With Director, work with colleagues within the Jimmy Fund, Corporate Partnerships, Annual Giving, and Principal & Major Gifts Business Units to build, manage, and sustain a corporate major gifts program ($50K+ gifts);
  • Organize and facilitate visits for foundation and corporate prospects in portfolio areas;
  • Develop and maintain fundraising marketing collateral for select patient support and community benefits programs, along with the Office for Faculty Development, for use with donors and business units;
  • Submit letters of intent and proposals, and oversee submission of follow-up correspondence;
  • Prepare quarterly progress reports on fundraising activities;
  • Represent Dana-Farber at off-site presentations and meetings;
  • Travel as appropriate to meet with prospects;
  • Responsible for assisting the entire Division with reaching financial goals.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reports to Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations. This position will seek major decision-making authority from direct supervisor. However, independent decision-making on day-to-day tasks and good judgment and discretion is required for working with current and prospective donors, Institute staff, and Trustees. Shares supervision of one Development Assistant.

Qualifications

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree required plus 3-5 years of experience in Development. Preference for candidates with previous solicitation and proposal experience.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Strong oral and written communications skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Excellent organizational skills, analytical skills, and attention to detail. Ability to work with a variety of constituencies, including donors, volunteers, and DFCI staff. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and Development databases. Ability to work independently and be self-motivated. Excellent problem solving and reasoning skills. Demonstrated ability to meet fundraising goals and deadlines. Ability to work in a collegial manner with the Development & Jimmy Fund team in creating and implementing solicitation strategies.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Typical office setting. Some evening and weekend work may be required during peak times. Some local travel primarily in MA.
