Overview

With a span of control over planning for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Medical Oncology patients admitted to Dana-Farber and Brigham and Women’s Hospitals, this position plays a key role in the optimal utilization of inpatient medical oncology resources, acting on strategy based in analytics and clinical knowledge, to achieve efficient and effective transitions of patients to and from the inpatient setting to ensure best possible patient and organizational outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with physicians, nursing staff, advance practice providers, hospital administrators, and support staff, the Director will apply outstanding negotiating skills to the implementation of overall frameworks for managing the complex multi-disciplinary and multi-organizational inputs to achieve continuously improving outcomes for both patients and hospitals
  • Responding to a very dynamic demand for admissions across a patient population with complex disease status and treatment plans, and applying evidence based planning, the Director will provide the inpatient admitting operational units with guidance, planning and problem solving on a day-to-day basis
  • Working closely with institutional analytics experts, operational leaders, and process improvement team and administrators, the Director will help develop and act on dashboards and other inputs to match admissions to inpatient resources to meet organizational quality and patient experience goals that include volume modulation, increased advanced bed assignment planning, appropriate assignment of patients to teams and locations, and efficient matching of discharge to admission
  • May oversee a team of scheduling support staff who triage requests, carry out discharge scheduling as well as admission rescheduling as needed

Qualifications

Master's Degree required; licensed Physician Assistant or Registered Nurse in Massachusetts preferred

 

5 – 7 years experience in clinical or patient management of medical oncology patients and/or therapies

 

Experience in quality improvement and/or project management preferred.
