The Oncology Acupuncturist for The Leonard P. Zakim Center for Integrated Therapies (ZCIT) provides clinical services to cancer patients and families, provides education to patients, families and staff, and assists/participates in the development and implementation of research studies involving acupuncture and other integrative medicine modalities.


  • Reviews the patient's medical history to develop individualized treatment plans. 
  • Prepares the patient for the procedure by informing patient of the treatment and intended effect.
  • Performs acupuncture treatments. 
  • Documents visits and maintains records in compliance with HIPAA regulations and Dana-Farber policies.
  • Follows up with clinical care team as necessary. 
  • Ensures a safe environment and maintains equipment and supplies in a clean, operable and safe manner.
  • Participates actively in development of oncology acupuncture program
  • Adheres to all hospital and departmental policies and infection control procedures.
  • Transfers acupuncture care to community provider when appropriate.
  • Participates in regular staff meetings and attends conferences as directed.
  • Educates patients, families and staff on acupuncture and other related modalities.
  • Participates in Zakim Center research projects.


  • Graduate of an accredited school of acupuncture
  • 5 to 7 years of experience working as an acupuncturist are required, along with the successful completion of National Board Exam, National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).
  • Must have a valid and current Massachusetts license to practice acupuncture through Board of Registration in Medicine.
  • Prior training in medicine/integrative medicine preferred.
  • Experience with adult and pediatric cancer patients and/or chronically ill patients and clinical research are also preferred.
  • Demonstrates understanding of special needs and behaviors of age groups of the population served
  • Must possess a basic understanding of health care clinical operations
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with Zakim Center Staff as well as all other oncology interdisciplinary team members.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills. 
  • Enthusiasm for learning and teaching.
