The Health and Wellness Coach works on a multi-center study designed to test the impact of a weight loss intervention upon disease outcomes in women with breast cancer. The lifestyle interventionists will play a key role in delivering an evidence-based lifestyle intervention via telephone and web, providing coaching support for weight loss and increased activity to women from across the U.S. and Canada, with attention to maximizing adherence to the intervention and retention. 


Work responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Follows established policies, protocols and procedures. After successful completion of required training, provides assistance with implementation of the study protocol;
  • Reviews and implements the lifestyle component of the BWEL research protocol in collaboration with investigators and the research team in ways consistent with the goals of the research protocol, general nutrition, physical activity and behavioral medicine principles, needs of the individual participants, and governing policies and procedures.
  • Acts as a lifestyle coach and delivers a 2-year telephone-based weight loss intervention via individual phone calls using a web-based platform
  • Interviews the subject on her experiences and feelings about being part of the study;
  • Schedules and implements lifestyle intervention calls with enrolled participants as described in the protocol: 12 weekly sessions during the first 3 months, 19 biweekly sessions for the remainder of year 1 and monthly sessions during year 2 ; Documents session notes using the web-based features;
  • Reviews food, activity and weight change data received and provides feedback to participants; identifies participants who may be retention risks and flags those at risk
  • Reviews participant interactive worksheets and questionnaires and uses these as a basis for call discussion, problem solving and goal setting;
  • Maintains communication with study participants and staff via phone, email, and during study meetings as needed;
  • Meets with study PI, Director of Behavioral Intervention and other study administrators to review participants’ progress, challenging cases, treatment fidelity, and counseling strategies to maximize adherence and retention;
  • Participates in quality improvement activities.
  • Complete other study-related tasks as assigned



  • All candidates will be required to work a 2:30 PM – 11 PM shift.
  • Full time candidates will also be required to work either a 12:30 PM to 9 PM or a Saturday shift.
  • Other days are 8:00 - 4:30.
  • Preference given to candidates willing to work more than one evening and/or a Saturday shift.
  • Evening and weekend shifts will be paid an additional $2 an hour shift differential for all hours worked that shift.


Bachelor’s degree required in the field of nutrition, health sciences, psychology, or exercise physiology. Master’s degree with 2-5 years counseling experience preferred.  Must possess highly effective interpersonal and written communication skills, as an individual and as a member of a team.  Ability to organize work, complete tasks efficiently and independently with attention to detail, meet deadlines for multiple tasks and inquiries. Experience with motivational interviewing preferred. Must have expert knowledge in a lifestyle intervention related field-nutrition, exercise or behavioral psychology. Research and/or oncology experience preferred.


The location is 165 Allendale Street, Jamaica Plain (near Faulkner Hospital).  Parking is free.   


Spanish language is desired but not required.
