The Belfer Center is dedicated to translating basic discoveries into new effective therapies for cancer. The integration of basic research and drug discovery programs at the Belfer Center provides a unique opportunity to convert critical basic discoveries in the laboratory into novel therapies to improve the lives of cancer patients. This highly integrated goal-oriented organization represents a new academic construct that provides an unprecedented opportunity to change the way anti-cancer therapeutics are discovered and developed.

We are seeking an industry-experienced in vivo cancer biologist with significant drug discovery experience. This scientific leader will work closely with corporate partners to deliver high-quality and time-driven results.  


Job Responsibilities

  • Lead cancer biology team to elucidate effective novel combinations in preclinical models, both in vitro & in vivo
  • Prepare research proposals and execute studies to meet deliverables to industry partners within defined timelines
  • Work with target discovery, pathology, pharmacology and bioinformatics groups to prioritize & validate novel targets and advance novel targeted therapeutics 
    • Delineate clinical path for new targets including identifying potential biomarkers via evaluation of compound & target interactions in tumor cell lines and in vivo
    • Direct human primary tumor xenograft studies to delineate mechanisms of resistance & discovery effective treatments for resistance
  • Manage a group of scientists to deliver innovative results
  • Collaborate with Dana-Farber Centers and scientists


Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will be collaborative, self-directed, results oriented and possess the following:

  • Ph.D. in biology or related field with 6+ years of experience post-PhD
  • At least three years of industry experience managing bench-scientists and drug discovery programs
  • A strong understanding of in vivo models and experience working with mice
  • Superior scientific & technical skills in in vivo pharmacology, including PK/PD/efficacy studies
  • A strong understanding of oncology biology and emerging preclinical/clinical drug research
  • Direct experience in target identification and validation for drug discovery
  • Experience in advancing drug discovery programs through collaborations with external partners
  • Outstanding communication, organizational and leadership skills, with a successful track record of collaborating with cross-functional scientific teams  
  • Experience in preparing data packages for regulatory filings is desirable
