The Network and Satellite Pharmacy Manager oversees the pharmacy operations of the satellite infusion clinics to ensure high-quality patient care is provided in compliance with regulations, hospital policies and practices. In addition, participates in the evaluation of potentials network sites and serves as a resource to existing network sites.

Responsibilities

  • Sets the schedule for Pharmacy coverage for the Satellites. Tracks vacation requests and approves based on staff availability. Arranges coverage when employees call in with unexpected absences. Approves weekly payroll.
  • Approves all off-label medication orders. Works with Finance to give clinical approval for medications that are not FDA approved. 
  • Works with Nurse Managers and satellite staff to resolve any narcotics discrepancies. 
  • Verifies that quality controls are being completed daily; identifies gaps and takes corrective action to remedy.
  • Regularly meets with Nurse Managers to review issues as they arise in the satellites. Participates on Pharmacy/Nurse committee that addresses and resolves patient care concerns. 
  • Develops and implements efficient workflows within the pharmacy; works in conjunction with physicians or nurses when a new medication or procedure change is introduces. 
  • Stays current with trends and developments in pharmacy practice.
  • Coordinates the training of staff new to the satellites.
  • Conducts site visits for potential network sites and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Serves as a resource for existing network collaborative sites
  • Other duties as assigned, including attending meetings and participating in Institute wide committees representing Pharmacy.
  • Performs duties of the Infusion Pharmacist as needed to provide coverage for illness, meetings, staff vacations and during periods of peak volume.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree or Doctorate in Pharmacy from an accredited college of Pharmacy is required along with 7 -10 years of hospital pharmacy experience, 4 years of oncology pharmacy experience, and 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Must be licensed to practice pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Board Certified in Oncology Pharmacy (BCOP). Advanced degree related to a specialty practice area is preferred.

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to dispense medication accurately and efficiently, with particular attention to details. 
  • Prioritization and organization of work under stress and time constraints. 
  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills needed.
  • Ability to prevent and resolve intradepartmental and interdepartmental problems 
  • Ability to make and implement decisions.
  • Must have supervisory training, organization, and time management skills in order to achieve departmental goals.
