    Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is seeking a Linux Systems Administrator to join the Research Computing team. The Linux Systems Administrator will be responsible for supporting the Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV) environment and ZFS Fileserver management for various laboratories throughout the Institute. 

    The Research Computing team at Dana-Farber consists of passionate collaborators with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The group currently maintains two High Performance Computing (HPC) clusters along with associated software module systems to provide ongoing support to Dana-Farber’s physicians, researchers and most importantly, our patients.     Responsibilities

    The Linux Systems Administrator will be responsible for a multiple platform, protocol and operating system environment. Responsible for maintaining server and storage hardware and software. Will monitor to ensure network availability to all system users and perform necessary maintenance to support network availability.

    • Maintain production application running in in RHV and VMWare environment.
    • Support CentOS/ZFS servers, SMB/NFS shares and storage infrastructure; support High Performance Computing environment
    • Build, maintain, and scale infrastructure for Production, Quality Assurance, and Development environments
    • Work alongside a multidisciplinary team to enhance automation capabilities with Ansible
    • Evaluate new technologies and update and/or develop best practices
    • Write and maintain infrastructure documentation for less technical audience
    • Assist development team by providing and configuring applications and/or software for multiple environments
    • Works closely with scientific staff to anticipate and meet program requirements for computational infrastructure.
    • Ability to work closely and coordinate with network and administrative groups on multiple levels.
    • Recommends purchase, development or enhancement of network hardware and software.
    • Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations.
    • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and replace defective components when necessary in the Data Center.
    • Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware.
    • Act as a representative of the Research Computing Team with external institutes and/or user groups.
    • May write scripts to manage and streamline computing queues and develop/implement policies and quotas on centralized cluster storage.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree required. Master's degree in Computer Science, Biology or Mathematics preferred
    • 3+ years relevant experience
    • Expertise in Linux/Unix
    • Working knowledge of XML, Java, Python, Ansible/Automation, git, ZFS, AWS, GCP, building software from source, Nagios. etc.
    • Redhat Certification a plus 
    • General understanding of networking protocols.
    • Strong interpersonal skills - ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff and external contacts
    • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
    • Knowledge of storage systems, Isilon and or NetAPP
    • Knowledge of high performance computer clusters and programming/scripting in Python, Bash, in a higher language such as C, Java) a plus.
    • Knowledge of AD, OpenLDAP, generally authentication and authorization systems
