    The position of lab assistant – glassware in the Department of Cancer Biology is defined in general terms as maintaining supplies of clean glassware for the department and facilitate the proper disposal of biohazardous materials.


                1.  Retrieval of glassware from the laboratories

    1. Washing glassware
    2. Covering and sterilizing appropriate glassware
    3. Returning glassware to storage areas on the floors in the appropriate areas
    4. Maintaining dirty glassware bins (routine cleaning and changing of the water)
    5. Collecting and transporting Biohazard bags
    6. Properly packaging biohazard bags into boxes for disposal
    7. Maintaining a clean, safe workplace
    8. Maintaining stocks of glassware


    • High school diploma preferred or its equivalent and 0-2 years of related experience.
    • Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures common for this type of job. This individual relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job provided by lab managers. 
    • Selecting and using methods and procedures appropriate for the situation.
    • Ability to work independently and respond to individual lab requests.
    • Identify potential safety risks and notify the supervisor.
    • Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
    • Teaching others how to perform required tasks.
    • Must adhere to safety polices and procedures and attend DFCI safety training events.
