    Reporting to the Director of Research Accounting plans and manages the day-to-day accounting operations for all federal and non-federal grants and contracts. Manages staff resources, including hiring, training of all personnel. Safeguards all DFCI assets for all research grants and contracts in accordance with the terms and conditions of each sponsor.

    Responsibilities

    • Responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of Research grants and contracts totaling approximately $270 million dollars 
    • Assists in the development of Research accounting policies and procedures and determines areas for process improvement and presents recommendations for change
    • Hires, trains, and manages the day-to-day activities for all research accounting staff 
    • Manages the completion of over 300 annual financial status reports to over 100 funding sources
    • Meets with principal investigators, department heads, and administrative managers to advise and assist in the resolution of any financial issues associated with sponsored research
    • Serves as principal liaison for all research accounting related matters including Grants & Contracts, General accounting, Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Financial systems
    • Assists in the preparation of the fiscal year-end and OMB A-133 audits for inclusion in the hospital's year-end audited financial statements, participates directly in any on-site audits or reviews performed by funding agencies, independent auditors or consulting groups
    • Responsible for updating and conducting training workshops for Research department administrators
    • Working with the Manager of Financial Systems, ensures communication and smooth transition of any new implemented system enhancements related to the PeopleSoft financial applications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelors degree in Business or Accounting
    • Eight to 10 years experience working in a Research accounting environment, including three years of supervisory skills
    • Excellent communications, problem solving, and customer service skills
    • Eight to 10 years experience with federal regulations governing grants and contracts, including OMB Circulars, A-110, A-122, and A-133, and FAR circulars
    • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting principles and practices
    • Be able to multi-task and work under tight deadlines
    • Knowledge of PeopleSoft financials is highly desirable
