    Reporting to the Senior Director of Financial Planning, this highly visible role will manage the day-to-day operations of the Business Planning area which include leading all updates to the Institute’s Multi-Year Financial Plan (MYFP) and managing ad-hoc requests for financial analysis of existing, new and expanding services.  They will offer demonstrated experience and execution with establishing forecasts that are understood and supported by clinical, operational and research heads, financial analysis, modeling and long-range financial planning.  The Director will be responsible for Disease Center reporting.  The Director will work closely with management at all levels both internal and external to Finance and applicable trustee committees (Finance, Executive, etc.), as well as counter-parts at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital and other related institutions to successfully complete duties.  


    1. Direct staff and the daily activities within the Business Planning area.
    2. Drive organizational focus around accurate long-range financial planning through ownership of all components of the Institute’s MYFP including balance sheets, statements of operations/changes in net assets, cash flow, financial ratios and debt-related covenants.
    3. Develop timelines and deliverables for distribution to key Institute personnel who have a role in the update process. Manage the data collection and input process.
    4. Work closely with the Senior Director of Financial Planning, Vice President of Finance, Chief Financial Officer and Finance counter-parts to continue to enhance the existing MYFP to meet ongoing Institute needs.
    5. Partner with leaders in Operations, Research, Strategy and Business Initiatives & Alliances to develop business plans, scenario analyses and pro forma analyses to facilitate business partners’ decisions around new projects and Institute initiatives
    6. Develop and formalize monthly and quarterly reporting by line of business, disease center, service type, and location that will be distributed and presented to executives and key stakeholders.
    7. Provide detailed analytics, prepare ad hoc reports, and furnish data on an as needed basis for senior leadership.
    8. Work closely with Directors of Revenue & Reimbursement and Budget & Decision Support to drive continuous improvement within the Financial Planning organization to streamline processes and improve communication and flow of information to the business.   
    9. Provide effective direction, guidance, and leadership over the staff for effective teamwork and motivation.
    10. Assist in the development, implementation, and operation of systems and processes to support the activities and goals of the Financial Planning department.


    • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance required, CPA or MBA
    • Minimum of seven to nine years of progressive accounting or finance experience, healthcare experience a plus. Project Management experience preferred.
    • Experience in long-range financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting within a dynamic and rapidly evolving health care organization.
    • Must be able to function independently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
    • Must have superior interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels of internal and external staff.
    • Must be committed to a customer service philosophy.
    • Requires strong computer skills, i.e., data mining, MS Excel, PowerPoint, automated general ledger system, etc. PeopleSoft and Strata or MPC experience a plus.
    • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage projects, multiple assignments and meet deadlines
