    The Computational Solutions (CS) group sits within Informatics as the department’s core resource for software architecture, product management and design. We strive to deliver solutions that enable clinicians and researchers to gain insights that improve patient outcomes. The incumbent in this role will serve as the product owner for a new data curation platform, leading requirements gathering and development of an enterprise-wide solution that will centralize and standardize data curation of cancer diagnoses, treatments and outcomes. Reporting to the product management and design lead, the Product Manager will solicit feedback and requirements from multiple stakeholders to guide the construction, support, and ongoing maintenance of the software solution.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead the design of a tool that involves a complex workflow with a diverse audience of users and requirements, while creating an intuitive and positive user experience
    • Elicit functional requirements from end users, other key stakeholders and other staff within Informatics, utilizing methods such as user interviews, mockups, use cases, etc
    • Gain thorough understanding of data that is currently captured within Informatics databases – collaborate with other Informatics staff to achieve a high level understanding of systems, and perform data analysis independently to grasp complexities of existing patient data that will be made available through new product offering
    • Assess using Natural Language Processing (NLP), or receiving data produced by NLP to reduce manual efforts by end users, and identify how this could be integrated within the product
    • Work with the OncDRS (cohort data retrieval and analysis platform) product manager to build synergy with existing data querying systems
    • Collaborate with others in the product management domain such as User Experience Designers to deliver prototypes, wireframes, and GUI designs
    • Proactively communicate and collaborate with internal customers to analyze information needs and functional requirements
    • Adhere to agile product development methodologies
    • Communicate status on various project/program efforts to Informatics leadership, Project Sponsor, Business Owner, and internal stakeholders, and manage expectations
    • Maintain end user documentation of application functionality and data.
    • Participate in regular team meetings to discuss team and project/program related activities, issues, changes, and communications as needed.

     

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    No direct reports; may provide guidance to less seasoned and new staff

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Healthcare Management, Public Health, Health Sciences, or related field
    • MS/MPH/PhD in Population Health, Biology, or Cancer Biology a plus. Alternatively, technical degree with recent exposure to healthcare informatics would be considered
    • 3+ years of software product management or product owner experience required
    • 2+ years of experience analyzing data using SQL, Python, Perl, or SAS and understanding of database design
    • A combination of education and experience may be substituted for requirements

    ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    • Understanding of software development and ability to quickly adapt to changing requirements
    • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer support
    • Ability to effectively translate complex business requirements to functional requirements
    • Exceptional problem solving and negotiation skills
    • Ability to effectively coordinate and conduct small meetings, both formal and informal
    • Requires minimal direction from leadership and possesses the ability to learn quickly
    • Ability to successfully negotiate and collaborate with others of different skill sets, backgrounds and levels both internal and external to the organization
    • Ability to cooperatively and effectively work within a team
    • In-depth knowledge of Agile process and principles 
    • Agile Product Owner Certification a plus
    • Experience with clinical data and/or Electronic Health Records (EHR) a plus
    • Experience as a Cancer Registrar (NCRA CTR) or as a Clinical Research Coordinator a plus
