  • Overview

    Reporting to an Innovation and Licensing Lead in the Belfer Office for Dana-Farber Innovations (BODFI), the Licensing Specialist will play an important role in DFCI’s technology transfer and business development efforts for a specific scientific cluster within Dana-Farber. Licensing Specialists work closely with their team lead and/or senior members on their team to support DFCI researchers in their assigned cluster area, and will be provided opportunities to handle increasingly complex projects as their knowledge of straightforward transactions and intellectual property increases.

    Responsibilities

     

    • Understands key scientific ideas and concepts and works with team to determine commercial applications within assigned scientific cluster
    • Supports team in initial assessment of invention disclosures; presents inventions to BODFI staff for determining IP strategy
    • Supports team in tracking, identifying partners and prioritizing marketing efforts for commercially valuable assets
    • Negotiates academic MTAs, CDAs and IIAs independently, and supports senior team members in other negotiations
    • Manages high agreement volume and able to seek and obtain input as needed to execute assigned agreements

    Qualifications

    • A Bachelor’s degree in business, law, or science is required; an advanced degree, such as a Master’s or PhD is preferred.
    • 1-2 years of related experience required, preferably in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and/or technology industries
    • Existing relationships within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and/or technology industries preferred.
    • The ability to work successfully with academic scholars, venture capitalists and industry executives.
    • A self-starter with the ability to identify creative solutions to problems.

    • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team.

    • Detail-oriented

    • Ability to manage/coordinate multiple projects and bring transactions to closure in a timely manner.

    • Entrepreneurship and interpersonal skills are critical to this position.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

    • Interest in and aptitude for science, intellectual property and business development is required.
