  • Overview

    The Pharmacy Materials Management Supervisor is responsible for the daily support and direction of pharmacy materials management. This includes supervising the inventory specialist, purchasing specialist, and technicians. Responsibilities include supervising the daily workflow, overseeing the purchasing and inventory functions to ensure proper drug and supply inventory levels, and quality control of all tasks. The supervisor will be responsible for medication month end reporting and financials, maintaining specific metrics and ensuring their compliance. The Pharmacy Materials Management Supervisor will help to develop, implement, and administer the operating policies and procedures for the materials management area of the pharmacy department. The supervisor is expected to develop and maintain effective working relationships with DFCI personnel and serve on appropriate departmental and interdepartmental committees.

    Responsibilities

    Responsibilities include:

    • Supervises the daily operations of the materials management area
    • Advocate for and support the staff with the goal of meeting the demands of the business
    • Participates in the development and implementation of pharmacy policies and procedures
    • Assists in the orientation of new pharmacy staff
    • Coordinates pharmacy activities with other department managers
    • Able to collect and analyze data from multiple sources for review with pharmacy management
    • Responsible for pharmacy system specific tasks such as; medication list management, drug dictionary updates, weekly prices-changes, and single-use waste reporting
    • Oversee the workflow and compliance with single-use waste billing
    • Manage the weekly price change process and quality controls with the data, which will ensure accurate patient charging and inventory evaluation monthly
    • Responsible for monitoring to ensure complete compliance with the Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA)
    • Responsible for identifying key metrics, setting targets, reporting key metrics to pharmacy management, and maintaining the ongoing monitoring
    • Manages the month end reporting process for the pharmacy department

    Qualifications

    Qualifications include:

    • Pharmacist degree or bachelor’s degree in Business or related field preferred
    • Strong personal computing skills, knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), required
    • Excellent organizational, customer service, analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Five years of related healthcare experience required, hospital pharmacy experience preferred
    • At least one year of supervisory experience is required, 3-5 years preferred
