The Marasco lab within the Department of Cancer Immunology and Virology is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as a Senior Research Technician who will perform cancer immunotherapy bench research including in vitro molecular biology and immunology studies and in vivo small animal experiments. Our research programs are focused on human antibody discovery and chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell cancer therapy programs.

This is an exciting opportunity to be the part of a research team focused on the identification and engineering of clinically relevant human monoclonal antibodies and studies of their mechanism of action. As such, the candidate should have hands-on bench research experience and have interest in the area of therapeutic antibody discovery and engineering. This individual will be an integral member of our research team and heavily involved in assisting different research projects while working on antibody discovery as well as bispecific antibody design and functional tests.


  • This position requires basic biochemical, molecular, and cell biology skills as this individual is expected to contribute significantly toward developing research projects.
  • There will be opportunities to design and perform experiments both individually and collaboratively, analyze experimental data, address problems in experimental protocols and results.
  • Responsibilities include but not limited to: preparation of master stocks of antibody display libraries, performing antibody panning experiments and screening positive clones by ELISA or flow cytometry, preparing samples for DNA sequencing and performing DNA sequence analysis, subcloning of antibody/antigen genes into mammalian/baculo expression vectors, production and purification of recombinant antibodies/antigens in mammalian cell or insect cell cultures, and their subsequent characterization including affinity analysis and testing biological activity.
  • The technician will provide research support for our chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell programs involving transduction, expansion, analysis of T cell subsets, functional exhaustion and activation-induced cell death; as well as assisting in vivo animal studies including construction and anti-tumor studies in humanized mice, breeding colony management, injections (IV, IP, SC, IM, ID), blood sampling techniques (sub-mandibular and cardiac puncture), necropsy, tumor measurements, and gamma irradiation for research animals.
  • This individual is expected to maintain accurate laboratory notebooks, both written and electronic; make presentations at lab meetings to update the group on experimental progress or current literature and will be responsible for writing methods and materials, results, figure legends and constructing figures for grant proposals, progress reports and manuscripts. Intellectual input and co-authorship are encouraged.
  • Other responsibilities include: preparing and ordering necessary reagents, maintaining cell cultures, archiving plasmid and glycerol bacterial stocks.


  • BA/BS in biological sciences with background in molecular and cellular biology, immunology or microbiology; MS degree is preferred.
  • Candidate should have at least 2 years of bench research experience with a strong background in both molecular and cell biology techniques.
  • Expertise in antibody discovery by phage and/or yeast display is a plus.
  • Learning and applying antibody engineering is required.
  • Proficient computer skills are also expected with competency in Word, Excel, etc.
  • The applicant must be a self-starter with the ability to work well within a team environment. Once trained, applicant must be able to work on his/her own with minimal daily supervision.
  • The candidate should be able to conduct bench-level experiments, assist in interpreting experimental data, and consult data with both the supervisor and PI in oral and written reports.
  • The individual is expected to be able to multi-task and be well organized, both require good time management skills; pay careful attention to experimental details and have excellent English writing and verbal communication skills. 
  • This is a regular, full time position. Nights and weekends may be required to meet research needs.
