    Processes, distributes and provides quality assurance for all patient specimens. Supplies accurate information to providers and other clinical staff regarding laboratory testing, test requirements and patient results.

    Responsibilities

     

     

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    1. Receives and processes patient specimens from within the Institute and from outside organizations.  Performs various quality checks to ensure all requests and data associated with the specimen are accurate before processing and releasing the specimens to the appropriate performing lab; maintains accuracy and efficiency in accordance with laboratory and Institute policy and procedure.
    2. Contacts the clinic or provider on any discrepancies with test orders, specimen and test requirements, or patient information upon receipt in Lab Control.
    3. Processes, centrifuges, aliquots, transports, ships, and stores specimens; processing may include receipt in multiple electronic information system (s), and automated instrument systems
    4. Reviews pending lists as required; addresses and corrects discrepancies or pending tests by contacting the reference lab and the provider as necessary
    5. Assists providers, nurses and other caregivers with lab test, test requirement and result inquiries.
    6. Obtains test and collection information, normal values, result turn-around time and locating reference lab which provide testing as needed
    7. Accurately enters results from the reference labs as needed
    8.  Participates in training new team members
    9. Understands laboratory safety policy and procedures and Department of Transportation specimen shipping regulations.
    10. Performs all other duties as assigned.

    • Excellent knowledge of laboratory systems, processes and procedures
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

    • Capacity to remain flexible and multi-task is key
    • Strong training skills with the ability to mentor and assess work-flow as needed

    Qualifications

    • BS preferred, High School Diploma required
    • Two years experience in a healthcare or laboratory setting required
