    The Department of Informatics & Analytics (I&A) at DFCI is seeking a Clinical Informatics Senior Project Manager to support critical business needs through the acquisition, development, deployment and support of software solutions that support clinical decision making.

     

    The Clinical Informatics Senior Project Manager will play a key role in the Informatics & Analytics Department by driving and managing a portfolio of projects and programs that comprise the clinical informatics agenda, including visualizing results of genomic tests and other complex clinical data, matching patients to clinical trials, and gathering/using structured data in the electronic medical record.

     

    The specific responsibilities of the Clinical Informatics Senior Project Manager will include 1) interacting with executive stakeholders and clinicians to ensure proper representation, prioritization, and materialization of their needs; 2) coordinating the work of multidisciplinary teams (including software developers, data analysts, healthcare providers, and senior leaders) to accomplish specific projects; and 3) overseeing the acquisition, configuration, development and deployment of software solutions.

    Responsibilities

    • Partner with the Medical Director for Clinical Information Systems and other leaders to establish and maintain clinical informatics strategic goals, and to promote strategic business decisions.
    • Support the development, implementation, and operation of systems and software solutions that address critical clinical informatics needs.
    • Manage the Clinical Informatics portfolio of projects, including tools that display complex clinical data to healthcare providers (e.g., genomic/genetic test results) and aid clinical decision making (e.g., matching patients with clinical trials using computational solutions).
    • Serve as the primary point of contact, technical expert and liaison between stakeholders and informatics staff. Gather stakeholders’ requirements and feedback; work with informatics staff to ensure proper representation and materialization of stakeholders’ needs. Guide team members using established project management methods.
    • Coordinate the work of multidisciplinary teams, comprised of staff members from Data Sciences, Data Management, System Architecture, Software Development, Research Informatics, Clinical Business Analytics, and Clinical Information Systems.
    • Oversee the hiring of staff and coordinate the acquisition of software products, as needed.
    • Actively promote and support standardization, utilization, health information exchange, integration and optimization efforts for clinical applications.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred (in healthcare informatics, computer science, healthcare management, or another related field).
    • 5+ years of experience in the healthcare industry relating to project management, informatics and software product development.
    • Knowledge of clinical information systems (e.g., Epic), enterprise data management, clinical genomics, and data mining/machine learning strongly preferred.
    • Proven ability to document business requirements, in consultation with senior/executive level clinicians and committees, and to translate requirements for technical staff.
    • Experience managing the development and deployment of health information systems solutions in a matrixed environment.
    • Established project management skills.

    • Ability to understand the interdependencies of clinical and operational systems, and to use that understanding to accomplish key institutional goals
    • Ability to learn which processes and policies are critical to success at an institution.
    • Familiarity with agile software development methods and practices, including front-end and back-end software product development.
    • Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects, including tracking requirements, managing dependencies, and prioritizing competing demands.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Able to function independently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
    • Superior interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with all levels of internal and external staff.
    • Proven ability to build relationships with staff members from across an institution, and to motivate others in a team-oriented, collaborative, matrixed environment.
    • Ability to effectively manage client and partner expectations.
    • Willing to understand diverse needs, motivations, and perspectives to enable consensus-based solutions.
    • Ability to consistently represent the interests and mission of DFCI and act on behalf of its patients.
