    We are seeking a talented, motivated, and collaborative Research Data Specialist to support the clinical research program within a state-of-the-art dry lab under Principal Investigator Dr. Katherine Janeway. The Janeway lab is focused on using genomic and transcriptomic sequencing to elucidate the underlying drivers of high risk pediatric cancers and to guide the development of innovative clinical trials for children with cancer. The position is based within the Janeway Lab at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute with collaborations at Boston Children’s Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, the Broad Institute, and pediatric oncology centers across the U.S. Research. The Data Specialist will work with a team to support the laboratory in the examination, synthesis, and evaluation of medical records; the abstraction and recording of pertinent medical information; and in data collection, computing, and database organization.

    Responsibilities

    • Collect, manage, and assess quality of patient clinical and research data.
    • Access patient demographic, clinical, and research information from the clinical systems including but not limited to the electronic medical record.
    • Develop and maintain consistent data abstraction techniques.
    • Review and abstract medical records for patient and enter the clinical and research data into designated databases.
    • Review data for quality and completeness using reporting software.
    • Assist principal investigators and staff in the creation of data reports for quality assurance measures.
    • Participate in meetings and teleconferences with institutions treating pediatric cancer patients across the United States

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in biological sciences, Master’s or another professional degree/certification preferred.
    • Experience working in a healthcare, medical, or scientific research setting is preferred
    • Excellent organization skills. Must be detail-oriented and can follow-through. Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize workload.
    • Experience with computers and databases, including proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products.
    • Ability to perform primary duties independently after training
    • Must practice discretion and adhere to hospital confidentiality and good clinical practice guidelines at all times
