  • Overview

Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute brings together world renowned clinicians, innovative researchers and dedicated professionals, allies in the common mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS and related diseases. Combining extremely talented people with the best technologies in a genuinely positive environment, we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all ages; we conduct research that advances treatment; we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers; we reach out to underserved members of our community; and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.

We are looking for a highly motivated molecular biologist to join the single-cell genome center at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute at the level of Research Scientist I.

The position focuses developing and applying sequencing methods for bulk tissue and single cells to support projects in single-cell biology and cancer genomics.

The candidate should have a strong background in molecular biology, next-generation sequencing (NGS) experiments, and single-cell sequencing methods.

In addition to performing bulk and single-cell sequencing experiments, the candidate will actively lead or participate in adopting and/or innovating new sequencing technologies and methods. These efforts will contribute to scientific publications both originating from the single-cell genome center and in collaboration with other researchers in the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center community. The applicant should be able to adapt quickly and be part of a cross-functional team in a rapidly changing environment.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Design and carry out single-cell and bulk sequencing experiments
    • Lead technical development of novel single-cell sequencing methods or applications
    • Participate actively in scientific projects of single-cell biology and cancer genetics
    • Effectively contribute within a multi-disciplinary team
    • Present results to team members and collaborators accurately and clearly

    • BS or MS degree in molecular biology or a related field, PhD preferred though not required
    • At least 5 years post-degree experience (PhD research included) in academic or industry environment
    • Proficiency in standard molecular biology techniques and in-depth knowledge of Illumina sequencing platforms
    • Demonstrated experiences and knowledge of single-cell sequencing techniques and relevant literature
    • Hands-on experiences with cell sorting, isolation, and manipulation for single-cell sequencing experiments
    • Proven track record of working collaboratively and effectively in a multi-disciplinary team
    • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

This is a 40 hour per week position.
