The Knowledge Systems Group at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) is currently seeking a Bioinformatics Analyst, specifically devoted to the development and application of clinical data standards for large-scale data-sharing projects. Your work will critically enable the sharing of harmonized datasets across multiple Cancer MoonshotSM data-sharing projects sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI).

    Responsibilities

    • Provide expertise and thought leadership in the assessment, adoption, and adaptation of existing data standards for representing and exchanging clinical data elements across a wide range of cancer research studies and cancer clinical trials.
    • In collaboration with members of interdisciplinary working groups, assess, align, and extend the clinical data standards in use at the research sites involved in two major Cancer Moonshot data sharing projects sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI): the Cancer Immunologic Data Commons (CIDC) (https://cimac-network.org/cidc/)  and the Human Tumor Atlas Network (HTAN) (https://www.cancer.gov/research/key-initiatives/moonshot-cancer-initiative/implementation/human-tumor-atlas).
    • In collaboration with the Knowledge Systems Group engineering team, develop new tools and methods for mapping existing and legacy clinical data to new clinical data standard(s), and oversee all clinical data mapping efforts for the CIDC and HTAN Research Centers prior to dissemination of these datasets to the wider community.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field, e.g. cancer informatics, public health, or epidemiology. Master’s degree preferred.
    • 3+ years working in cancer and/or clinical trials research with an emphasis on clinical data standards
    • Strong knowledge of medical terminologies, controlled vocabularies, ontologies, HIPAA regulations, and industry standards
    • Prior experience with data annotation using more than one of the following existing clinical data standards: ICD-03, SNOMED, LOINC, CDISC, NAACCR, or the Genomic Data Commons (GDC)
    • Prior experience with mapping existing and legacy clinical data to existing clinical data standards
    • Prior experience working with clinical data mapping software and/or with computational researchers working with clinical data
    • Strong knowledge of data housed in electronic medical records, cancer registries, and other healthcare systems; knowledge of oncology data and related areas strongly preferred
    • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work independently to resolve time-sensitive issues and balance multiple projects
    • Ability to communicate with collaborators at all levels
    • Strong interest in contributing to translational cancer research
