    The Pharmacy Benefits Coordinator is responsible for completing all pharmacy prior authorizations for take-home medications. Serves as a liaison between the multiple disease centers at Dana-Farber, oncology patients at BWH and health insurance company representatives. This role requires a detail-oriented person who can manage multiple efforts to completion.

    Responsibilities

    • Processes prior authorizations for all prescription medications written for all hematology and oncology patients at the Dana-Farber and Brigham and Womens Hospital by Dana-Farber providers. 
    • Provides patient information to insurance companies as needed and in accordance with HIPAA regulations as well as other state, federal and DFCI/BWH guidelines. 
    • Communicates with pharmacists and other members of the care team to validate information when needed.
    • Communicates the status of the prior authorizations to ensure the care team is aware of any and all potential delays in getting prior authorization approval.
    • Communicates back to pharmacy, provider and patient if the prior authorization is approved.
    • When appropriate, collect and communicate co-payment information to the care team
    • When appropriate, coordinate mail-order discharge meds at the Brigham
    • Document and/or udpate each prior auth in a centralized tracking database or worksheet
    • Other duties as assigned.

     

    Qualifications

    • A high school diploma and 1 to 3 years of experience in a pharmacy, healthcare or health insurance environment is required. Utilization Review or Prior Authorization experience is preferred.
    • Well organized and able to multi-task quickly and effectively.
    • Works well in high-pressure situations.
    • Ability to work closely and effectively with peers across the organization and with the medical staff. 
    • Motivated, shows initiative, and collaborates well in a team setting. 
    • Ability to be flexible and meet the needs of a growing department. 
    • Good written and verbal communication skills
    • Understanding of and ability to work in various computing/information systems and Microsoft Office product suite.
