    This position will assist scientists in performing scientific research, development and/or clinical tasks of varying complexity. In general, this position will assist in the set up, operation and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment, monitoring experiments, making observations and calculating and recording results.

    Responsibilities

    Responsibilities:

    We seek an enthusiastic and highly motivated laboratory technician to join a cancer genomics research laboratory that studies the role of oncogenic alterations in cancer, the cancer-associated microbiome, and immune-interactions in cancer. This individual will work with a group of post-doctoral fellows using innovative molecular biology, genomics and informatics techniques, in a highly collaborative, stimulating, collegial and multi-disciplinary research environment. This position will provide ample opportunities for professional development and the acquisition of cutting-edge skills in basic and translational cancer genomics research, research planning and strategy, and data analysis and interpretation.

     

    Specific duties would include:

    • Tissue culture of human cancer cells
    • DNA cloning and sequencing - Design and use of reagents for genome engineering with CRISPR/Cas9 technology
    • Extraction and analysis of DNA and RNA, including PCR, quantitative PCR, RT-PCR, and sequencing - Protein assays including immunoprecipitation and immunoblotting - Flow cytometry - Enzymatic assays
    • Presenting findings at internal (DFCI) meetings
    • Maintenance of general lab supplies, consumables and equipment
    • Ordering/cataloging of laboratories supplies and reagents
    • Other research or organizational duties, as appropriate
    • Under the guidance of the research team, the ideal candidate will assist with collecting data, interpreting experimental results, and synthesizing the findings within the larger context of the project(s).

    Qualifications

     

    We are seeking a talented and exceptionally motivated scientist, with a BA/BS in biology or a related field, ideally with some laboratory experience in molecular and cell biology/biochemistry. In addition to technical and scientific knowledge, this individual should have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, a working knowledge of basic laboratory research software (Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint), and the ability to perform meticulous record keeping. Candidates with plans to pursue advanced degrees in cancer biology- or healthcare-related careers, such as working toward an M.D. and/or Ph.D. degree, are strongly encouraged to apply.

     

    A working knowledge of basic molecular biology and microbiology techniques, such as bacterial isolation and culture, PCR, cloning, DNA/RNA/protein extraction, Western blotting, tissue culture, etc would be highly desirable.

     

    The ability to master a variety of cellular and molecular biology techniques is essential for this role, as are good organizational and communication skills, a thirst for knowledge, the ability to work within a team, flexibility, and responsibility.
