    The Market Strategy Lead (MSL) is one of several leaders in the Innovation office charged with portfolio and relationship management for a specific scientific cluster area within Dana-Farber. Reporting to the Vice President of Innovation in BODFI, the MSL’s goal is to maintain, develop and grow relationships both internally and externally. In order to shape and execute on commercial opportunities the MSL will need to have a deep understanding and familiarity with their assigned cluster. Each MSL will manage a team of Licensing managers, Associates and Specialists. MSL’s will be the lead relationship driver with the principal investigators within their cluster. MSL’s will be driven to accelerate the commercial opportunities for his/her cluster but will partner closely with other MSL’s on the team to coordinate when there are cross-cluster programs and projects. He/she will meet regularly with faculty and industry and will coordinate business development with the BD Lead. Each MSL will develop close relationships with their counterparts in industry to provide insight and access to DFCI’s relevant therapeutic, diagnostic, device, digital, big data, clinical and other portfolio efforts. The MSL will coordinate team and faculty trainings as applicable.   Additionally, he/she will regularly keep PIs and others in the organization engaged, build alliances with all stakeholders and provide regular reports and updates to BODFI leadership.  



    • Faculty relationship development – Meets annually with every PI; quarterly or more regularly if PI is prolific or as requested.
    • Meets quarterly with cluster faculty advisors.
    • Manages relationship with licensees, sponsors and potential partners.
    • Partners with Innovation leadership on execution of business development agreements.
    • Attends at least 1-2 general conferences and 1-2 cluster-specific conferences annually.
    • Maintains market landscape of cluster areas.
    • Alliance agreement formation and PMO (w/ Business Development Lead)
    • Reviews and approves agreements before submitting for executive signature.
    • Holds regular meetings with cluster; attends regular meetings with other MSL’s and VP, Innovation.
    • Review of assigned cluster’s innovation database process adherence.
    • Oversight of one internal DFCI event per year related to specific cluster.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.



    • Excellent oral, written, communication, and analytical skills are required. Must be able to communicate proactively.
    • Demonstrated team leadership / management abilities.
    • Strong communication, negotiation and organization skills.
    • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and complex organization with multiple stakeholders.
    • Flexibility with changes in environment and role.



    Manages staff within the assigned cluster, including training, development and annual reviews. Provides regular feedback and support to staff.


    A Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline is required; an advanced degree, such as a Master’s or PhD is preferred. A degree in business administration and/or management or law is also preferred. 7-10 years of related experience is required, preferably in pharmaceutical, biotechnology and/or technology industries. Existing relationships in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and/or technology industries are required.
