    The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) seeks a Research Scientist, Clinical Genomics, to join our team and help us improve the interpretation and usage of genomic data in clinical practice. This is an essential role for extending precision medicine and improving the accessibility and utilization of clinical cancer sequencing.


    • Support the clinical application of cancer genomic testing through variant review, curation, and quality control.
    • Review scientific literature and public databases to interpret the functional impact of cancer variants and provide concise summaries.
    • Review patient-specific precision cancer medicine reports and summarize findings with support from disease experts.
    • Prioritize complex cases for discussion and lead an interdisciplinary meeting to review these complex reports.
    • Create and manage database(s) to tracking precision medicine reports and clinical outcomes (e.g. within a REDCap database), to ultimately track patient outcomes and measure impact of precision medicine reports.
    • Potential opportunity to write a manuscript based on this initiative.
    • Establish guidelines and workflows to integrate this initiative with other efforts at DFCI.


    Required Skills

    • PhD in genomics, molecular biology or a related field.
    • Expertise in cancer genomics, cellular pathways commonly involved in cancer, the clinical application of next generation sequencing and genomic testing reporting.
    • Experience interpreting clinical sequence variants and using tools such as UCSC Genome Browser, cBioPortal, IGViewer, etc.
    • Knowledge of commonly used oncology/genomics databases such as dbSNP, COSMIC, ExAC, 1000 Genomes, etc.
    • Detail-oriented and able to critically analyze and interpret scientific literature.
    • Excellent communication and writing skills.
    • Excellent organization skills.
    • Strong leadership skills.
    • Outstanding personal initiative and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
    • Ability to meet deadlines and efficiently multitask.

    Desirable Skills

    • Experience with genomic data science, including some scripting or programming.
