    Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Senior Director of Financial Planning will oversee the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Dana-Farber or the Institute) Financial Planning department consisting of the offices of Budget and Financial Analysis, Revenue and Reimbursement, and Business Planning.  The Senior Director of Financial Planning will provide key, hands-on strategic, business and financial leadership throughout the Institute. This high visibility role will offer demonstrated experience and execution with financial analysis, modeling and strategic planning. The successful candidate will be a seasoned professional who can collaborate and partner across Dana-Farber’s fast – paced organization including the senior leadership team, department owners and program stakeholders.

    Responsibilities

     

    1. Working with the Director of Budget and Financial Analysis, lead annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting process. 
    2. Working with the Director of Business Planning, lead annual 5-year forecast and updates as required throughout the fiscal year.
    3. Partner with the Financial Operations team on monthly, quarterly and annual closing and reporting processes.
    4. Drive preparation and delivery of financial management/budget variance reporting with clear communication around business drivers and future implications.
    5. Partner and collaborate across Institute departments and with senior leadership to provide business analytics/guidance necessary to drive budget/forecast alignment and sound decision making.
    6. Drive analytics and modeling for potential business development activities including scenario planning.
    7. Create and monitor dashboards of key performance indicators, highlighting trends and analyzing causes of unexpected variance.
    8. Conduct complex modeling, analysis with scenarios, to influence internal business partners' decisions around strategic initiatives.
    9. Design and prepare management reports and presentation materials for Finance Committee, Board of Trustees and Management Team meetings.
    10. Participate in the financial modeling and due diligence efforts related to the Institute’s ongoing strategic plan.
    11. Lead financial systems strategy to ensure leverage of cutting-edge technology in financial analytics.
    12. Drive continuous improvement within the Financial Planning organization to streamline processes and improve communication and flow of information to the Institute business owners.
    13. Enhance and monitor customer service to department managers and Institute leadership.

    Qualifications

    • An advance degree such as an MBA is required. 
    • At least ten years of experience in a hospital finance setting, with evidence of progressively greater responsibility over the most recent five years.  Extensive experience in business planning, financial analysis, forecasting and budgeting. 
    • A demonstrated track record in working effectively with senior leadership in all areas related to financial operations. Significant experience managing people with strong, professional communication and writing skills.
    • Experienced change agent, who is adept at understanding customer needs, managing complexity, maintaining flexibility and continually evolving to meet changing business needs. A visible, motivational, accessible leadership style with a commitment to building and mentoring a team with a customer service orientation.
