Research Technician - Janne Lab

The Jänne laboratory at Lowe Center for Thoracic Oncology (http://jannelab.org/) is searching for a motivated individual for an in vivo Research Technician position. The candidate will be part of project teams focused on identifying novel targets and therapies for cancer drug development. He/ She will contribute hands-on to the execution of both in vivo and ex vivo PD Biomarker studies in mouse models of cancer. The person would work in conjunction with our preclinical and clinical scientists to design and execute oncology related mouse studies using bioluminescence (BLI) imaging and conventional endpoints (e.g., caliper measurements, clinical scoring) to evaluate novel pre-clinical lung cancer therapies. The candidate must work well in a team, contribute to other studies as needed and must be able to understand and follow the Animal Resource Facilities standard operating procedures and DFCI institutional guidelines and policies.

• Assist with the establishment and maintenance of mouse cancer models (e.g. by injection or minor / major surgery).
• Build of syngeneic, xenograft, PDX and orthotopic mouse cancer models

• Perform mouse in vivo animal procedures, including dosing animals by various routes (e.g. oral, intravenous, intraperitoneal, etc), measuring tumors by calipers, non-invasive imaging (bioluminescent imaging)
• Perform efficacy and tolerability testing in mouse cancer models
• Breeding and genotyping of GEMMs
• Animal health monitoring
• Mouse necropsy and tissue collection
• Routine handling, restraint, identification (including ear notching, tagging, tattooing, and toe clipping) and sexing of common laboratory animals. Ability to distinguish various common laboratory animal strains in accordance with standardized genetic nomenclature and phenotype identification.
• Cell culturing techniques and subcutaneous implantation of cell and tumor grafts
• Data recording, data analysis, reporting and interpretation
• Contribute to overall vivarium organization and IACUC protocols

• BS in biological sciences or equivalent major
• LAT certification preferred
• 1 year research experience in academic and/or pharmaceutical/biotech environment preferred

Additional Skills

Proficiency with in vivo databases, Graph Pad Prism and PowerPoint is desirable

Working Conditions: (include physical efforts when necessary)

• After receiving specific training, this position will be required to occasionally work in the ABSL-2/3 suite treating and monitoring study animals.
• All aspects of this position expose personnel to animal fur and dander, which may be hazardous to those with allergic conditions. Disinfectants, detergents and soaps are used in the daily sanitation assignments.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Operation of centrifuge, anesthesia machine, autoclave, heat lamp, restrainer, tumor caliper, scales, barcode scanners and ATP luminometers.
