    This position utilizes and integrates broad communications and administrative experience, project management abilities, social media skills, organizational skills, and creativity.  The position will report to the Department Administrator and work closely with faculty, the Department’s Business Office, numerous central departments, as well as various Harvard schools and departments. 



    • Liaise with DFCI’s Development, Communications, and Marketing offices.
    • Direct and manage BCB communications with external stakeholders and other DFCI departments. 
    • Assist individual labs with communications.  This could include the development of materials, such as content for websites, media, and donor requests, as well as communications/branding plans.
    • Work with Departmental leadership to develop, implement, and maintain a social media campaign, as well as a communications plan. 
    • In conjunction with BCB’s Department Coordinator assist with external communications for department and lab events. 


    • Be the Department’s expert on the Institute’s personnel policies/procedures, including hiring, visas, and policies/guidelines that apply to specific types of employees such as post doctoral fellows and instructors.
    • Complete annual post doctoral fellow survey.
    • In collaboration with the Business Office work with HR on recruitment and onboarding of personnel, including ensuring a comprehensive, standardized Departmental orientation that includes all mandatory trainings.  Also, maintain processes for offboarding of staff and faculty.
    • Manage appointments with various Harvard schools and departments.  This includes being the go to person for the various requirements such as CV format, required dossier materials, and related policies/guidelines. It also includes the need to collaborate with personnel at the various schools and departments.  
    • Complete employment verifications and other type of personnel letters, such as those required for visas.
    • Track where post doctoral fellows work after completion of training with BCB mentors
    • Oversee coordination of annual reviews.
    • As needed, coordinate faculty recruitment process.
    • Follow up to ensure BCB members are aware of and complete all mandatory trainings and requirements, such as the Outside Activities Report for HSPH faculty and the annual flu vaccine policy.
    • Manage BCB’s employee recognition and acknowledgment process and in conjunction with Departmental leadership coordinate the annual bonus awards committee.


    • B.A./B.S. required, advanced degree preferred.
    • Demonstrated communications experience, including development of communication plans and collateral material.
    • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong writing skills.
    • Able to work independently to resolve time-sensitive issues and balance multiple projects.
    • Able to communicate with collaborators at all levels.
    • Track record for exceptional service and creativity in service to complex organizations and demands of clients within such institutions
    • Must have a consultative, relationship building approach and the highest level of professionalism and discretion
    • The ability to communicate and influence effectively “up, down and across” the organization is critical; must be experienced as a collaborator and team player.
