    Dana Farber’s SVP of Innovation is looking for an Innovation Director to aid in the tactical execution of the strategic vision and the initial planning of leading-edge programs as well as acting as a sounding board for novel concepts.  The Innovation Director will articulate the SVP's vision while interfacing with multiple departments to mobilize efforts for planned project execution and subsequently track progress against planned execution.  The right candidate will also be expected to interface with SVP direct and indirect reports to solve problems, mediate disputes, and deal with issues before they are brought to the SVP in order to promote cross functional collaboration.  The position requires a large amount of flexibility, multitasking, and collaborative spirit to effectively handle the ever-changing responsibilities.  Ultimately the ideal candidate will have the ability and drive to work with a variety of teams, have a broadly applicable skill set, and be comfortable diving into any area of the business to bring directional alignment and reduce blockers.

    Responsibilities

    The responsibilities for this role lie in four key functional areas.  However, this role may be called upon to preform additional tasks as needed.

     

    Operations Support

    • Providing operational support to the SVP of Innovation by aiding in the tactical execution of strategic vision and initial planning of leading-edge programs.
    • Articulate the SVP’s vision in the context of the organization’s overall goals to mobilize needed subject matter experts for long term planning efforts and subsequently track progress against planned execution.
    • Builds strong cross-functional relationships with internal departments to implement business strategies.
    • Manage day-to-day administrative matters related to operations, finance and talent management and serve as the operational point of contact.
    • Provide expertise to the SVP and other executive leaders in the execution of departmental goals in order to maintain a high level of cross functional coordination and collaboration.
    • Responds to and meets with a broad range of internal and external individuals, frequently related to matters of immediate concern, and coordinates responses, solutions and follow-up.
    • Participates and nurtures broad networks of alliances with strategic partners to exchange knowledge and information in support of organizational strategic initiatives, ensuring highly productive relationships and partnerships for the benefit of the organization.
    • Provide a wide range of operational support and other related tasks as required.

    Communications

    • Prepare communication and research for departmental updates, presentations, and other correspondence as required.
    • Prepare and direct meetings originated by SVP and follow-up on subsequent action items.

    Managing Initiatives

    • Lead strategic opportunities and special projects on behalf of the SVP.
    • Manage vendor relationships and contracts related to operational engagements.
    • Works closely with Executive leadership in planning, directing, and budgeting the activities pertaining to the efficient operation of initiatives.
    • Anticipate and direct resolution of issues as needed.
    • Monitors and manages key deliverables of the strategic plan.

    Ongoing Improvement

    • Develop deep knowledge of the organization’s culture and structure to support and improve its functioning, procedures, protocols, and planning.
    • Interface with all functions within the department to ensure highly functional teams, rapid identification of any potential issues/solutions, and suggestion of improvements.
    • Track and assess key organizational performance measures.
    • Develops future state approaches.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS

    • BA/BS degree required; Masters in Business Administration or biological sciences preferred
    • PMP, alliance management, and/or contract management certification preferred

    EXPERIENCE

    • 5-8 years’ experience with strategic planning, research, program management, and/or other relevant functions
    • 5+ years of experience managing complex initiatives and delivering on measurable goals, preferably with PMP training
    • Experience with general business management in a department head or leadership role
    • Proven experience motivating and managing indirect reports and organization while working directly with a CEO or c-suite executive
    • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office
