    POSITION SUMMARY:


    Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorder Center (DF/BC) is a partnership of more than 60 years between Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Boston Children’s Hospital that provides comprehensive care to children with cancer and blood diseases, and survivors of pediatric cancers.

    The Web Editor conceives, implements, and oversees web and digital communication projects that increase awareness of DF/BC. The Web Editor also increases visibility of the DF/BC global online presence among key audiences (patients and families, referring physicians, opinion leaders and the medical elite). Primary responsibilities include: managing the DF/BC website; developing website strategy and requirements; managing the website design firm; determining content and navigation approach; managing and improving ongoing Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM) efforts of the site, and social networking initiatives.

    This role has a dual reporting relationship reporting to both the Director of Interactive Communications and the Director of Marketing.  Responsibilities also include overseeing projects that increase traffic to the DF/BC website, and other applications, digital video and podcasts, and web promotions. The Web Editor reports to the Director of Interactive Communications and Director of Marketing at Dana-Farber. The Web Editor collaborates with Boston Children’s Hospital and Dana-Farber’s marketing, communications, interactive, clinical and research teams.

    Responsibilities

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Conceives and implements web development and marketing efforts that increase awareness of and loyalty to DF/BC among key online audiences (patients and families, referring physicians, opinion leaders and the medical elite).

    2. Increases traffic to and engagement with DF/BC’s external website and other satellite social networking sites (e.g. Facebook). He/She manages ongoing Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM) efforts and web promotion campaigns.

    3. Works closely with chief clinicians and leadership in the DF/BC program. Develops, writes and manages web content for three sites (Dana-Farber/Boston Childrens website; pediatric section of Dana-Farber.org; oncology section of (Boston) Children’s Hospital.org), oversees web projects for developing content assets, including copy, multimedia digital video and podcasts, physician profiles and other projects.

    4. Works closely with people and client groups throughout the Institute to coordinate the promotion of key online initiatives. Presents projects and initiatives to leadership groups.

    5. Keeps abreast of web technologies and explores new online applications for the DF/BC website.

    6. Demonstrates ability to measure and report on metrics for DF/BC web activities to multiple audiences.

    7. Collaborates on interactive initiatives with DF/BC communications and marketing teams.

    8.   Responds to all web requests and communications, internal and external

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

    Work requires the knowledge typically acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's degree in Marketing or Communications, and 5-7 years of relevant online content development experience in the Web 2.0 environment. Excellent writing skills required.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

    • Requires the proven ability to conceptualize content structure and strategy, increase site traffic, and promote user engagement and interactivity in the digital space.
    • Requires strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects successfully, on time and within budget in a fast-paced environment.
    • Requires excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, and the ability to communicate with a diverse audience of marketing and IT professionals, designers, clinicians, patients and families, and researchers.
    • Requires understanding of and commitment to the mission of Dana-Farber/Boston Cancer and Blood Disorders Center.
    •  Strong knowledge of medical terminology helpful.
